“God is the answer to every question.” Gayan of
Hazrat Inayat Khan
Annotation by Cherag Hamid Touchon
2+2=God? How can that make any sense? From a mystical point of view,
as we grow inwardly though our spiritual practices such as prayer, meditation,
etc. Our view of the world gradually becomes a continuous vision of the
Divine Reality of God which is the underlying reality that animates the
world in which we live. When we come to realize this our life becomes a
continual communication with God until all answers and all questions for
that matter resolve into this one reality.
Now how we get to that point is always the hard part. Short of living
in this constant vision of God, caught up in the drama of our every day
lives, lost in the meandering thoughts and desires of our minds and hearts,
how can we come to the point of recognizing that God is the answer to all
of our questions?
First we can consider that God is answering all of our questions. And
what does this require of us? It requires that we are listening, that we
are waiting and watch for God to give us an answer. Because, in reality,
God is constantly answering us, we are in a constant dialog with God and
all we have to do is pay more attention and pay closer attention. God is
talking to us through everything and everyone around us. We are immersed
in God! So if we will take this approach, that everything all around and
within us is God interacting with us than we will gradually begin to understand
God’s language. And this is a big part of it, we have to understand God’s
language and find our answers in how God answers us. God is always subtle
and poetic and surprising. The answers might come in the same breath as
the question or perhaps in a week or a year. We have to be willing to let
things unfold as they must so that we can understand the answers. There
are many questions that we may need to prepare ourselves for a whole life
time so that we may hear and understand the answer which was, perhaps all
around us the whole time just waiting for us to be ready to hear it and
realize it.
A Fikr Practice (silent breath meditation)
However many breathes seem appropriate
On the out breath
"OPEN OUR HEARTS THAT WE MAY HEAR THY VOICE "
On the in breath:
"WHICH CONSTANTLY COMETH FROM WITHIN "
